Stari
Grad is placed on the south-western coast of the Hvar island. It is 20
kilometres far away from the town Hvar. Counting about 1850 inahbitants, it is
the biggest settlement on the island. Inhabitants are mostly engaged in
viticulture, olive-growing, fishing and tourism. Stari Grad has rich cultural
and hisorical heritage, and it originates from antique times due to which is
called Pharos. There are cultural and historical monuments that give evidence
on past times. Kiklop`s walls are the remains of the walls which enclosed the
greek Pharos, and they are 9 metres long. Then, there is the Hektorovic`s
Tvrdalj which is the most outstanding edifice in the town and Petar Hektorovic,
a famous writer, got this edifice built. The parish Church of St.Stephen was
built in 1605 at the place where there had been a cathedral once. Dominican
Monastery was fortified in 1482, and it keeps the rich archaeological
collection and a lapidary. The accommodation in this picturesque place is

sports and recreation sites. Wonderful beaches enclosed by pine wood on one
